Today Nissan announce the official starting price and expected US dealer sales dates today. The Nissan GT-R NISMO will go on sale for the relative bargain price of $149,990 USD and arrive at selected US dealers on July 31. I say relative bargain as a comparison to much more expensive cars with much higher price tags. The GT-R has always been compared this way which is, alongside its performance, what has given it such endearing nicknames like "giant slayer" and "Godzilla" . The NISMO GT-R will have a bump of 55hp and 18lb-ft of torque as well as improved aero and suspension. A Track edition will follow the NISMO which according to Nissan has "specially tuned suspension, special brake cooling guides, front spoiler with carbon fiber air ducts, special blue-trimmed high-grip seats, heated front seats, a lightweight carbon fiber trunklid and spoiler." These two editions will join their current brethren in the GT-R lineup, the Premium and Black Edition. While the price increase may not justify the additions in some eyes, it should be noted the Nissan GT-R NISMO does hold the world lap record for a volume production car at the Nurburgring in Germany (7:08.679) which if nothing else, makes for some great bragging rights. If you have deep enough pockets, and a love for the current GT-R ( honestly who doesn't) then you just might want to free up a spot in the garage for the new Nissan G-R NISMO. Enjoy a video of the king of the GT-R's taking on the Ring below.
