Today I had the great pleasure of reading an article from Travis Okulski in which he describes his recent ride along in the Koenigsegg/ Freevalve camless engine test car and all I can say is when will this future tech be in my car because it sounds amazing. For those of you who aren't engine savvy, all combustion engines up until very recently have used cams to move the valves within the engine for intake, exhaust, etc. Check this out for a better explanation: How Camshafts Work. However Koenigsegg and their subsidiary Freevalve, have been working on creating a production level camless engine. These engines are said to have the capability to produce 30% more power and yet improve fuel economy by 50%. That alone gets me excited, especially thinking of the performance side of things with say, a turbocharger in the mix. I don't know about you but the future is near, and I am looking forward to it.
