I'll start by saying TX2K14 was the first time I have been to a TX2K event. Myself and my group of fellow car enthusiasts all went down for the entire week of hot nasty speed. The first event, high speed roll racing, were held at the Texas World Speedway. To say there was an epic amount of horsepower in attendance is an understatement. From 2000HP GTR's to twin turbo Lamborghini's from Underground Racing, and even an ultra high horsepower Acura Integra and boosted Ariel Atom, everything racing was amazing. While the event itself seemed a bit unorganized, from long lines, to very sporadic timing of the runs, the racing itself was fantastic.
The roll racing was set up with two cars starting out in the pit lane, with many drivers taking advantage of the straight using it as a mini drag race to the delight of spectators. They would then take the wide banked turn, line up as the turn ended at approximately 60MPH, and then race for 1500FT. Top speeds cleared the 200MPH mark and there was plenty of surprises. The major downside to the event however was the distance from the track for spectators. The cars ran along the far side of the track, away from all of the stands. Even with a great camera lens it was a bit distant. It would turn out however, to be worth attending both days of the roll racing.
Following two days of roll racing, the event moved to Hennessy and the Lone Star Motorsports Park for Dyno Day and grudge drag racing. There was also a bikini contest, concert, and car show. The dyno portion of the show had many high horsepower cars. There was a great twin charged 1000+ WHP Ford GT40, a +800WHP Lexus IS300, and a 1300HP Supra. It was however quite difficult to get close to the dyno area due to space constrictions, but you could hear the cars anywhere in the area.
The car show boasted a plethora of exotic and powerful cars. Multiple rows of Supras, Lamborghinis, RX-7s, Porches and more. Some of the more notable cars included a Lamborghini Aventador, a Mclaren MP4-12C, a ACR Viper, an R32 Skyline, and a Lotus Esprit.
The grounds were nothing short of amazing car overload. Hennessy even opened up his showroom floor so that spectators could get a view of the famous Hennessy Venom GT.
Later in the day, grudge match racing went fantastic. They only gave away 50 tech cards for racing but the ones that decided to race were definitely not there to mess around. Even the record breaking Alpha Omega GTR managed to get some runs in using their brand new build. The grudge racing boasted many ten second cars and even a handful dipping into the single digits.
Later in the day, the burn out contest took place. This was underwhelming to say the least with only a few cars participating and I wouldn't have missed it if it had been skipped. Another new event was added this year was the blindfolded slalom gymkhana. I actually participated in this even in my Hyundai Veloster. It was comprised of a small, 4 turn slalom and a blindfolded driver with a navigator riding shotgun. It was exciting, funny, and the Supra which ran into the wall has now become famous although I am sure he isn't as excited about that as the crowd was to watch it happen.
The next two days, drag racing. TX2K's most famous event. What everyone was looking forward to. And.......it was cancelled. For the first time in the events history the drag racing was cancelled due to weather. Parts of the park had nearly a foot of standing water. While this was a huge disappointment, seeing the rest of the great events and cars more then made up for it and I will definitely be going back. Despite being a bit unorganized and hectic, the event is a great one, and definitely the best I have attended. If you ever get a chance. Don't miss it.
