UPDATE: David vs Goliath: Rimac's All Electric Car Vs the Hybrid Porsche 918

UPDATE: The video of this amazing race was just released on Salomondrin's YouTube channel!
Check out the video at the bottom of the article!

For those of you unfamiliar with YouTube personality Salomondrin, and his acid green Porsche 918, he has as part of his show Bangin’ Gears, featured a competition between his Porsche and the Rimac Concept_One. Also, for those of you unfamiliar with the company Rimac, as I am sure most of you are, they are a Croatian based auto manufacturer founded in 2009 by CEO Mate Rimac, and they are the company behind the claimed, world’s first all-electric hyper car. The company also develops their own batteries, drivetrains, and does other automotive related manufacturing.

During his time at Monterey Car Week, Salomondrin was able to get the Rimac company to agree to bring their Concept_One out to compete.  Fresh off a recent win also shown on Youtube, where the Rimac easily defeated the Ferrari Laferrari, the company’s schedule sent them to the Midwest. The two cars then met, almost ironically, in The Motor City of Detroit and the Milan Dragway to duke it out in the quarter mile.

Just to give you a bit of an idea of the potency of the Rimac Concept_One, it hosts an impressive drivetrain, which boasts an output of 1,088 horsepower and also has two-speed dual clutch gearboxes. Even more impressive, this is not even the fastest car that Rimac makes. How’s that for electric power Mr. Musk?
The cars reportedly took to the track about six times, with the Rimac winning at least three times, with a best time of 9.9 in the quarter mile, overall defeating the awesome 918. With the Rimac taking the straight line crown, we now have to see what it will do in the cornering department. It would be amazing to see it take to the track against the likes of the “holy trinity”, meaning of course, the P1, the 918, and the LaFerrari. Until then, you can watch the entire Bangin’ Gears episode on YouTube for $1.99, or watch it over the next few weeks for free in several segments.
